What should I bring?
If your name in your foreign Passport is the same as the one in your Portuguese Birth Certificate:
Valid foreign Passport;
If your name in your foreign Passport is not the same as the one in your Portuguese Birth Certificate:
Valid foreign Passport;
Accompany yourself by: two witnesses of Portuguese nationality with valid Citizen Card, or
Two witnesses with valid Passports or,
One whiteness who's a direct family member (father, mother, spouse, adult offspring or adult sibling) identified with a valid Citizen Card. If the whiteness is of foreign nationality, they must present a valid Passport and proof of the relationship.
Any other documents the applicant might have that could help prove their identity.
How long will it take?
Normal Requests: Aproximately 20 working days. Urgent Requests: Aproximately 10 working days.
Collection of Citizen Card
The collection can take place during weekdays between 8:30am and 4:00pm. No need to book an appointment. The collection can also take place in a different location as long as requested by the applicant during the application process. The Citizen Card cannot be collected one year after the PIN letter is issued.
Collection by the applicant The applicants should present their previous B.I./Citizen Card or Passport and the PIN letter (if they have these in their possession).
Collection by others The Citizen Card can be collected by a third person if this is requested by the applicant during the application process. The applicant must indicate the following regarding the third person:
Type of ID document;
Expiration Date;
Where it was issued;
Full name and date of birth.
Upon collection, the third person should carry their ID mentioned in the applicant’s request as well as the PIN letter (if in their possession).
