
Who can acquire Portuguese Nationality?
- Capable adults born abroad who are descendants of Sephardi Jews of Portuguese origin and declare that they wish to acquire Portuguese nationality.

What documents do I need?
- Foreign passport(s)
- Full legalized narrative birth certificate*;
- Declaration for the acquisition of Portuguese Nationality. This declaration must be signed in front of the consular officer, on the day of the booking;
- Certificate issued by the Jewish Community in Portugal attesting to its Sephardic ancestry (Israeli Community of Lisbon or Israeli Community of Porto);
- Criminal records from all the countries of residence after the age of 16.

You cannot apply if:
- Has been convicted of a crime which in Portugal is punishable by a term of three years jail or more
- Work as a public office in another country, that are not only technical functions
- Has performed non-compulsory military service in another country
- You are involved in terrorism-related activities

How do I apply?
- After having all the documentation you should contact the Consulate of Portugal for the e-mail consulado.londres@mne.pt to book an appointment in the Notary’s department for the Recognition of Signature in person in the application addressed to the Minister of Justice and certified photocopies of all your foreign passport(s)

How much does it cost?
The request costs 250€ payable by international cheque in euros, to the order of the IRN, IP with the address of the Central Registry Office. Recognition of the signature on the application is free of charge.
