National Health Service
To access the National Health Service (NHS) you must register with a GP (General Pratice) and attend a routine first visit with your doctor, who will collect your health history and give you further medical care and advice in all areas of health, to you and your family.
To find out which GP is closest to you, check it out: https://www.nhs.uk/Service-Search/GP/LocationSearch/4
The NHS provides universal coverage, based on the principles of equity and completeness, with the exception of eye (ophthalmology), dental and drug delivery services. The Portuguese and their families have the right to free NHS care.
Access to medicines is free for children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with economic difficulties.

Social security contributions
DWP is the body that administers social security in the United Kingdom. As soon as you register for a National Insurance Number with United Kingdom Social Security, a National Insurance account is created in which all your social insurance contributions are recorded. Contributions are withheld at source in the case of employees. Self-employed persons contribute based on their annual profit.
